Garlic has been used medicinally for centuries by virtually every culture. In the early 18th century, an epidemic had spread widely over Marseilles, France. An old tale describes the fear and unwillingness of survivors to move the deceased bodies. Four convicts sentenced to death were appointed the job, and somehow survived. It is believed their survival is due to their heavy drinking of a red wine in which garlic had been soaked.

This tale only skims the surface in regards to the power of this onion relative. Much research has shown that garlic can not only help lower blood cholesterol levels, but plays an important role in fighting off bacterias, yeasts, and viruses. It also purifies the blood by helping remove toxins from the body. Because of it’s many antioxidant properties, garlic has been shown to slow the aging of the liver. Since garlic pairs well with many other vegetables and spices, it is easy to incorporate into many dishes.
